Back To School Again
Is it ever to late to pursue your education??? I don't know what you think, but I'm excited to share with you I started at university today. Yupp, aged 43 I took my big old self and started a part-time MSc in Human Resource Development & Consulting (with the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development [CIPD] Professional membership accreditation). "What??! On top of your crazily busy job with all them hours and national travel?" I hear you say. "Yes!" I reply, with my StrengthStrength "and-what?" stare. How can I have a vocation as a Strategic Human Development Professional - coaching & leading personal, professional & strategic organisational learning, if I'm not prepared to review what education I need to achieve my career aspirations and be prepared to undergo continuous professional development too? I don't flinch at the incredible loss of idle-time, the stress from juggling a national senior management strategic role, not to mention the essays, [...] ... See more
Take A Staycation!!!
Have you ever taken time off to just enjoy the city where you live??? I did! This is Part III to my season of birthday posts - I did say I was going to celebrate my birthday big time... I already revealed that the first part of my celebration was a quiet week exploring Berlin with my fella. Well the second half was was 1.5 weeks holidaying in London!!! What's The Point Of A Staycation??? Well my Holidays Are... blog post championed the psychoanalytical benefits of taking a holiday - in it I mostly advocated "getting away". This is the flip side to my call for taking time out - but staying put in the city where you live. You've made reference at one point to living in a city where others find it appealing yet because you're in the daily grind & routine you rarely experience the wonders of it as a visitor or tourist would, haven't you? Don't try say no - iSeeYou Inspired by my two buddies Demarco & Tiffany who were visiting from Atlanta in the USA, I [...] ... See more
Holidays Are…
Holidays are a psychological must! For real! Look at what we endure by way of day-to-day urban grind - work, kids, studies, families, friends, fitness, home-making, commuting, relationships and not to mention the mound of life-issues that we get battered with and see ourselves through, every day. Holidays provide one of life's pleasures - the anticipation of a stop-the-world-I-want-to-get-off-moment - whether for a weekend, a week, a fortnight or if we're really really lucky, even longer (lottery-win/sabbatical/retirement /sugar-daddy - permitting)! They provide a crucial space where we can suspend our daily reality and emerge ourselves into an alternative environment that can be an anaesthetic to our mind, body and soul. Bliss personified! *face-in-palms-sigh* Why is it that mental-imagery important? Because we all need a break, that's bleddy why. "True-that" I hear you say. The Psychology of Holidays I started this by saying that holidays are a [...] ... See more
Birthdays Are For…
Did I tell you it was my birthday??? I'm sure I've dropped it in a blog or two lately!!! It's the time of the year where I blissfully celebrate my life! Bourne from simplistic, real wonderment at still being here, feeling blessed and deeply thankful for what experiences I've come through, to become as happy as I am with my life. It's my birthday season. Yes I said season. What??! I'm surrounded by an array of friends - at one end of the scale there are fiends like myself who confidently know why they want to celebrate their lives and how they want to celebrate it! At the other end I've friends who want to celebrate but feel embarrassed about asking those to help them celebrate - what's that about??? At the very extreme end of the scale I've a fair few friends who refuse to even celebrate personally and are absolutely determined to treat it as any other day. Me? I’m not hiding my light under a bushel!!! Yuh lie love!!! But each to their own; I be I and you [...] ... See more
